Heart Happiness for Valentines

Heart Happiness for Valentines

Well I cannot quite believe that it is February already, January has been a bit of a blur in our house. I am looking forward to a new month with new classes and projects lined up, it is going to be a busy one. In amongst all of that coming up is Valentines Day, now we’re not usually big celebrators of Valentines Day but with 3 small kids, starting this business and James busy job we kind of need the excuse of a day to stop and appreciate each other a little bit. So I have been looking at ideas to make a handmade card as I would normally do. I mentioned a stamp set on my Facebook Page the other day called Heart Happiness, with a big variety of hearts, this set is perfect for Valentines cards.

I made a standard A6 (14.8cm x 10.5cm) card base from smokey slate card stock and then used basic grey for a matting layer and stamped onto whisper white card stock. I really like the simple combinations of the grey, white and red and think it is perfect for a more masculine card. The colour combination made pairing silver embellishments with this card easy and effective.

I would say that my style of card making is quite simple and clean looking, though I do like to add embellishments they could quite easily be left off this card and it would still be lovely. I used silver metallic thread (which i love, it is so versatile!) and a few basic rhinestones. I stamped a few hearts onto spare white card and cut them out to stick on with dimensional foam pads to highlight some of the hearts.

The lighter grey background hearts were done using a technique called ‘stamping off’. This is when you ink up your stamp and then stamp off the stamp once onto a scrap piece of paper and then stamp the ‘less inked’ stamp onto your project giving a lighter/less pigmented effect. This is useful if you just wants to highlight certain areas or for adding a bit of background texture without distracting from your main image.

I can see me getting lots of use out of this stamp set and will be versatile for many projects. This stamp set can be found in the new Spring/Summer 2018 Catalogue on page 20, all other materials are from the Annual Catalogue.
